Who's That Guy? Meet the Model Who Makes Authors Swoon (Romantic Times BOOKreviews Issue #272, October 2006)
By Elissa Petruzzi
Those abs. That stare. And, oh my, those lips. You may not know his name, but you'd probably recognize Nathan Kamp from one of his many book covers. According to superfan Stacy's Listmania chronology on Amazon.com, he's been on more than 125!
But Kamp isn't just a pretty face ... or lips ... or abs. The Seattle native is also a devoted Christian who's actively involved in outreach within the modeling community, according to a recent interview in Michelle Buonfiglio's Romance: B(u)y the Book column. And, sorry ladies, he's taken, Kamp has been happily married to best friend and hometown sweetheart Elizabeth since 2000. On his website, NathanKamp.com, he calls himself "the happiest man on the planet," because of the vows he shares with his beloved. Even authors are swooning for the sexy and romantic Kamp:
Teresa Medeiros was writing the first love scene for THE VAMPIRE WHO LOVED ME when she received the book's cover. "I was like, 'OK, this is really inspiring me! I'm going to hang this over the computer!'" she remembers. "He really is a lovely representation of [my hero] Julian, and you don't always get that where you can say, 'Yes, he could be my hero.' Nathan absolutely could be."
Pamela Clare is another Kamp fan -- he adorns the wallpaper on her computer's monitor as well as the cover of her novel SURRENDER. "I spend every workday looking at him. He's showing his luscious abs" in the picture, she says, admitting, "It's probably not the most professional appearance" for work.
Lori Foster was thrilled to discover Kamp on the cover of her novel WILDLY WINSTON . "Oh, he was perfect!" she says. "I dread having a cover model with a shaved chest. I don't know how delirious I would have to be to write a hero with a shaved chest. Nathan totally epitomized what I had in mind."
Angela Knight is also pleased with the feeling of masculinity Kamp lends to the covers of her books MASTER OF THE NIGHT and MASTER OF WOLVES. "He's simultaneously a very handsome man and yet he's also masculine. A good hero has a little bit of edge." Taking a breath, she says, "He's gorgeous, what else is there to say?"
