I love "booklooking" so much that it became a compulsion. I had
never heard of Romantic Times BOOKclub when I first started hunting
for titles. I bought books whenever I could find them, without
order or forethought. As I began to search for specific titles,
"looking" became much more difficult. Sometimes I could find a
bookseller or librarian who would scout books in print, but even
that was no help if the book was out of print.
Finding Romantic Times BOOKclub made book searching much easier.
With RT, all the books are listed with a short synopsis. Listing
the must-haves immediately, I take my list to the book store.
They pull everything I want when it arrives and no books are
overlooked. This was a problem before I discovered RT, as some
books sold out before anyone was able to recommend it. Using RT
as a new-book guide keeps me from missing my favorite authors'
books. Authors and their novels are categorized into time periods
and sub-genres, and then listed and reviewed.
If you are enamored with an author, the hunt is on with RT.
Articles on authors, themed back lists, and books recommended by
other readers always give me a good start. (I research authors'
other pen names, too.) Checking an author's current work may
reveal her backlist; writing friends and authors may add to your
list. Then, LOOK EVERYWHERE! Garage sales, used book stores,
library sales, and the Internet. Don't forget places you would
never expect to find a book: a roadside stand had a bonanza of
Cathie Linz's old titles. One friend found a book she had been
looking for for years in a restaurant... they had glued books
together as a decoration. Makes you want to cry, doesn't it?
Always carry a booklist of especially hard-to-find titles. It's
fun hunting, and the best bonus is that after making the kill,
you get to read them.
