Booklovers everywhere are united by the same symptoms: the
inability to walk past a bookstore to see if something new has
arrived (even if you were in the store the day before); the
possession of a TBR (to be read) pile that can number in the
hundreds and may be taller than Mt. Everest; a collection of
keepers that you'd never part with on pain of death; and a list
of TBB (to be bought) books that you just have to have the minute
they arrive at the bookstore. You'll even volunteer to help the
store's staff unpack the box in their back room if they don't get
around to it fast enough!
Romance readers and writers are among the best people in the
world. Our love for books and happy endings join us, and our
knowledge of storylines and favorite authors makes our
conversations lively and spontaneous. As one reader, a happily
married family woman told me, "The appeal of romance novels is
that it's wonderful having a reliable source of happiness at your
fingertips." As an author and a romance reader, I can only add
that it's also wonderful networking with others who share your
book-hoarding ways!
