You probably know who I'm going to mention: Elizabeth Lambert of UNM. I understand she was suspended. This video is incredible:

I hope the link works -- it's unbelievable.

I just saw that video if you can believe it and was shocked. I forwarded it first thing to my DD not knowing if she's seen it yet. I do know that she actually had two friends who played for the LOBO's but have since graduated. I'm sure they knew that player and had her as a teammate.

I'm glad she's since apologized and has taken responsibility for her actions.

Soccer is a very physical game where many can confirm. It's sad when poor sportsmanship takes place but it does happen all the time. Maybe not so blatant as that Lambert girl but players have been known to "take out" or "play dirty" against an opponent. Sad yes.

My DD and a lot of her teammates this season alone can vouch to that. Four key players out with ACL tears and one with a broken leg. Talk about hard luck for her team this season (team is still doing awesome-due to our lords grace to bless those good in adversity) but it's a common occurance in women's soccer.

Unfortunately, mine was that statistic as well and tore her ACL (again) getting taken out during one of her games early in the season.

While I was in New Jersey last month, one of her teammates broke her fibula & tibia during the game and my heart just broke while hearing her screams out on the field. I kid you not. Everyone in the stands were so quiet. What a game. I was in tears it was so heartwrenching. The referee's (though only human) have got to control the games. It's that simple. If the players are sent off (red carded) from the first infraction or warned the game can stay in control otherwise it can get out of hand real fast.

That Lobo player was lucky no one got hurt with her blatant misconduct. In two of those plays shown, any one of those women players from Utah could have been injured serious if not with a season ending ACL tear.

I'm glad someone caught her on tape.

I'll get off my soapbox. LOL Thanks for sharing, Linda.

Wow Cigi, will your daughter need surgery? She must really love the game to come back after one ACL tear. I remember getting hit with a softball (I used to pitch) to the shin. I screamed bloody murder! I can't imagine that young woman's pain breaking it. You're right, the refs have to step up.

I'm sending prayers and healing vibes for your daughter -- for you too. You guys must really love the game.

The guys on our sports radio station here in Houston were talking about this yesterday. That girl deserves to be suspended whether or not she "takes responsibility". She is a dirty player and doesn't deserve to be allowed on the field.

What I don't understand after watching the video was were was the opposing team's coach? Why didn't he say something to the refs? Where were the refs?

I'm really surprised that they let her get away with what she did!?!?

I read that the UNM player has already been suspended though I'm not really sure for how long since their season is done. Their team might qualify for the NCAA tournament for which she may not be able to play but she really IMHO should be sitting out of next years season also.

Thanks, Linda for the prayers. My DD is doing fine. She had the surgery just before we got there so her mommy & daddy could take care of her recovery period. Awwww. What perfect timing for all of us. LOL

Now we all say she has a matching set of recovering knees.

She tore her left side ACL/MCL at the end of last season (she just got back into shape-it takes about 6-9 months) then this happened again for her on the right side. Her coaches were even more devastated then she was. We're really proud of her attitude for taking it like a trooper. She's actually played the game for most of her life then in the final two years of her collegiate soccer career gets these season ending injuries.

That's why it gets me mad when you see that UNM player playing dirty. She could have seriously injured anyone of those women on the field.

Danielle~

The opposing teams coaches probably saw some of those offences happening and may have yelled out but then if those referees didn't see it taking place then there's nothing that could have been done. Bummer, I know. They do miss a lot on the field that we the fans see all the time. I think that's why a lot of hot headed soccer fans get so overly zealous during the game.

The referees are usually watching the players who have possession of the ball so they probably didn't see her doing the pulling of the ponytail and the back punch at the time.
