I've just finished Tess Gerritsen's Body Double and have to say I totally loved it. The mystery was great with a surprise twist at the end.
Actually, I haven't read a Gerritsen book that I didn't like. I'm not sure which is my favorite. Maybe Gravity since it has a unique setting (Space Station).
Anyone else read her books? Which are your favorites? |

| All of hers are my favorites. Well, that's not totally true. A couple of her most recent issues have not been that well written. I'm hoping she'll get back on track soon. I haven't given up on her--she's too great an author. |

Hi Robin and Tee,
I've been thinking about reading her books for awhile but have been hesitant because I've heard her books have graphic violence. I love a good mystery/romantic suspense and of course there is going to be some violence involved, but some authors will push the envelope. What are your thoughts? _________________ "Never be without a book to read!" - Kathryn Falk

Well, I never really thought about it but I'd say her books are violent. They are definitely not cozy mysteries where the old lady down the street finds a body and helps the police solve the crime. Her Jane Rizzoli/Maura Isles books are homicide investigations. We sometimes get the point-of-view of the villain and sometimes get the POV of the victim. Have you read Lisa Jackson or Tami Hoag? I would say they are along the same line as her books.
Gravity is a medical thriller. The villain is actually a single-celled organism that is killing the astronauts as the Space Station. (Reminds me of the movie Outbreak.) So I would say this one isn't violent at all. |

Although I think her books can have some violence, I have read far worse than hers--Slaughter, Cain, etc. Definitely agree with Robin in that her stories are not cozies. I would begin with her early ones. Here's a list--
Medical Thrillers
Gravity
Bloodstream
Life Support
Harvest
Jane Rizzoli/Maura Isles series
The Surgeon
The Apprentice
The Sinner
Body Double
Vanish
The Mephisto Club
I personally did not care for The Bone Garden nor The Keepsake, so I didn't list them.
If you do attempt reading any of her stuff, let us know your reactions. |
