THE BRIDE OF CASA DRACULA
by Marta Acosta

RT Rating: ½
Category: CHICK LIT
Publisher: Pocket
Published: September 2008
Type: Chick Lit (Vampire)

Acosta's talent is staggering. In each of her Milagro de Los Santos novels, she shows readers all over again just how funny, ridiculous and thoroughly gifted she is at plotting. The story never lets up, and every character can be measured in great significance. In stories to come -- and this ending was left open -- one hopes to see more of the tremendous physical strength Milagro has, for she'll undoubtedly continue to fight for her survival ... cracking jokes between punches.

Summary: The irrepressible Milagro is engaged to vampire Oswald and has agreed, albeit feebly, to go along with the Vampire Council's rules in order to be accepted in their society. This means no sleeping in the same bed -- or anything else -- until they're married.

As Milagro attempts to plan her wedding, she's besieged with offers of help from her uppity friend, Nancy, and Ian's adopted sister, Cornelia, who, it turns out, once had relations with Oswald. As if her life couldn't get more complicated, Oswald's obsessed with work, Milagro's ghostwriting a novel for a total lunatic and she's befriended a wolf against Oswald's wishes. Whether or not she'll make it alive to her wedding is anyone's guess. (Pocket, Sep., 368 pp., $14.00)
