THE EX-DEBUTANTE
by Linda Francis Lee

RT Rating:
Category: MAINSTREAM FICTION
Publisher: St. Martin's
Published: April 2008
Type: Mainstream Fiction

Lee does it again with this fun fish-out-of-water novel that hits all the right society notes. The plot is rich with detail and entertains throughout. The one chink in Lee's armor is the contrived handling of the heroine's engagement to Boston lawyer Phillip. Otherwise, the story is a delight, rife with lawyerly detail and society high jinks.

Summary: Lawyer Carlisle Wainwright Cushing moved out of Texas years ago to escape the burden that comes with her heritage -- and to get far away from her first love, Jack Blair. Now she's back and handling her mother Ridgely's divorce. Of course the opposing counsel would have to be the very man Carlisle has done her best to move on from -- Jack. But as she hides her engagement to another man while doing her best to plan a debutante ball for a group of wily teens, life is about to get dicey indeed. (St. Martin's, Apr., 320 pp., $23.95)
