Holidays can bring out the best, or in this case, the worst in people. This hot quartet of supernatural scribes dishes up tales that are at times edgy and dark, but hopeful all the same. Time well spent!
Summary: Harrison's "Two Ghosts for Sister Rachel" gives a peek at the early adventures of a teenage Rachel still recovering from the disease that almost killed her and developing her powers.
Sands serves up "Run, Run Rudolph," bringing back the molecular destabilizer. Jill was supposed to play Mrs. Claus with hunky neighbor Nick as Santa, but it turns into a race to escape when a demented John Heathcliffe zaps her.
"Six" is Liu's edgy offering. Raised to be a member of the elite Chinese Squad Twelve, Six gets more than she bargains for when necromancer Joseph reveals a dangerous vampire conspiracy.
Finally, Pettersson gives a prequel
to her Zodiac series in "The Harvest." Former superhero Zoe Archer must face deadly danger if she is to rescue her newborn granddaughter from the shadow forces. (HARPER, Nov., 384 pp., $7.99) HOT
