| No one does twisted killers better than the awe-inspiring Rose. Her ability to ratchet up the creepy factor within an exciting procedural thriller makes her tops in her field. The real trick, however, is balancing out a great villain with strong heroes and heroines, which is exactly the case in this fear-inducing novel.
Summary: When the police need her
help to search a field for buried bodies, archeologist Sophie Johannsen becomes involved in a case that cuts
too close to her field of expertise. Sophie is horrified to discover the
victims were tortured using medieval inquisition devices.
Detective Vito Ciccotelli is impressed with Sophie's knowledge and skills, plus he finds himself thinking romantically for the first time in years. What Vito and Sophie have yet to realize is that these killings are all part of a deranged gaming programmer's need to research and incorporate the perfect screams and death into his latest video game. And this killer still needs the death of a warrior queen. (GRAND CENTRAL, Sep., 576 pp., $6.99) MILD
