THE JUDAS STRAIN
by James Rollins

RT Rating: ½
Category: MYSTERY
Publisher: Morrow
Published: July 2007
Type: Mystery (Thriller, Series)
» Excerpt/Cameo

Science geeks and history buffs aren't the only ones who will enjoy Rollins' latest endeavor. The absorbing plot is as intricately woven as a strand of DNA -- no coincidence here, since it wraps around a bacterial mutation that could mean the end of the planet. This is a top-notch mystery in a series whose characters continue to reveal hidden depths; a cutting-edge scientific and historical journey to an ancient land; and an action-packed, super-intelligent thrill ride.

Summary: When a motorcycle slides into his parents' driveway, Commander Gray Pierce rushes forward to offer aid to what turns out to be an old enemy seeking his help. Like it or not, he'll have to work with Guild operative Seichen to save the world from a bacterium whose origins may lie within the writings of explorer Marco Polo.

The secret agents of SIGMA Force (killer scientists, as they joke) have already dispatched researchers to Christmas Island after reports of a mysterious plague. Could this be what was in the secret Polo journals -- and could the answer be found in the language of the angels? (Morrow, Jul., 448 pp., $25.95)
