NEW MOON
by Stephenie Meyer

RT Rating: ½
Category: YOUNG ADULT
Publisher: Little, Brown
Published: October 2006
Type: Young Adult (12 and up)

Meyer follows up her YA vampire novel Twilight with this equally enthralling sequel. Though the charismatic Cullens are absent for much of the middle of this lengthy tale, Bella remains a charming narrator. Great characters, strong conflict, fast-paced action, sweet romance -- all of the elements are in place for this series to become a modern YA classic.

Summary: Bella Swan is devastated when the Cullens decide it's time for them to move on from Forks, Wash., before anyone figures out they are vampires. Her boyfriend, Edward, refuses to turn her into a vampire too, despite her wishes, and implores her to forget he ever existed. His departure from her life triggers a state of near-catatonia for months. With the help of her friend Jacob, she comes around. But Jacob has a secret of his own, and soon Bella finds herself in more danger than ever before! (LITTLE, BROWN, Oct., 563 pp., $17.99, ISBN: 0316160199, 12 & Up, HC)
