Make sure the doors are locked and the lights are on, because the fear quotient in The Mephisto Club is enormous. Gerritsen always delivers intense thrillers, but she outdoes herself with this desperate hunt for a diabolical killer. Using ancient mythology and historical text as back-story, Gerritsen propels her heroines, Rizzoli and Isles, into a horrific case that's rife with demonic symbolism. The tight pacing and ferocious intensity make this one of the year's best and most memorable thrillers!
Summary: This Christmas Eve crime scene is one of the worst that Detective Jane Rizzoli and medical examiner Dr. Maura Isles have ever seen. The female victim has been dismembered, and strange symbols are found. Also puzzling is a phone call made from the crime scene to Jane's professional rival, psychologist Joyce O'Donnell.
As the investigation proceeds, Jane and Maura learn about a secret society called The Mephisto Club, headed by the rich and well-connected Anthony Sansone.
