KITTY AND THE MIDNIGHT HOUR
by Carrie Vaughn

RT Rating: ½

Publisher: Warner Aspect
Published: November 2005
Type: Mystery (Suspense, Paranormal)
» Excerpt/Cameo

D.J. Kitty Norville's syndicated show is a bona fide hit. It's late-night radio advice with a supernatural twist. Kitty, herself a werewolf, helps those suffering from lycanthropy, or in love with a vampire. But the world doesn't learn of Kitty's secret until she's confronted on the air by Cormac, a contract assassin who specializes in werewolves. When Cormac and Kitty both realize that the hit is a setup, they agree to a truce.

That truce comes into play when the police discover they have a serial killer werewolf on their hands. Kitty tries to assist the police, but that doesn't endear her to her pack. However, she's gaining in strength and independence, which means a nasty confrontation is on the horizon.

Kitty is a werewolf with some major issues, including being inappropriately attracted to a hot werewolf hunter. Debut author Vaughn's clever new take on the supernatural is edgy and irreverent. The problems and issues raised and left unresolved will have readers clamoring for the next installment. (Nov., 288 pp., $6.99)
