A GLASS DARKLY
by Max and Ariana Overton

RT Rating:
Category: PARANORMAL ROMANCE
Publisher: Mundania
Published: June 2004
Type: Paranormal

Although the writing suffers from excessive description, this second book of the Glass House trilogy entertainingly blends science and myth to create an adventurous action story.

Sinister California billionaire Morgan Steele, with the help of a team of top scientists and backing from a mysterious group called the Nine, is building the top-secret Vox Dei. Morgan seems to have nominal approval for his project from the government, but there's something shadowy to his plan.

Physicist Andromeda "Andi" Jones wants to find her sister, Sam, who's gone missing in Australia. Steele, Andi's ex-flame, has important clues to Sam's whereabouts, so the physicist reluctantly joins his team, hoping to learn more.

When the authors focus on the action, the pacing picks up, but over-the-top descriptions create an atmosphere more melodramatic than scary. Andi's an intriguing character, but the romantic subplot with Marc feels thin and contrived. Their banter has no warmth, and like other sections of the book, is too often full of excess information.
