Hating the Popular and Loving the Hated
With the movie New Moon out, I can't avoid Twilight or the series. I have never read the books and don't intend to. They just aren't my style and I have plenty of other vampire books to fulfill my appetite. This got me thinking about how some people love books others hate, and vice versa. For instance...
I refuse to read the Harry Potter books. I find them annoying in the extreme without ever having to pick one up. This, of course, leaves me open to ridicule by their most ardent fans.
I don't care for the Sookie Stackhouse books and have no intention of watching True Blood. I tried a book once and couldn't get through it. Meh.
I loved THE DA VINCI CODE. Yes, I admit it. I don't plan to read Dan Brown's newest one, but I did enjoy his previous books. This leaves me open to mockery by many and sometimes worse. Quite the controversial book.
I do not like STRAY by Rachel Vincent, no matter how hard I tried to. And yet, many people seem to like her Werecats series. I just don't get it. Just like I don't get Shiloh Walker's books. I don't know what it is, but they rub me the wrong way.
I loved ORYX AND CRAKE by Margaret Atwood, which I am learning is not a popular stance to have. I love nearly everything Margaret Atwood writes, but I especially loved ORYX - it's final scenes haunt me still and I can't wait to finally read the sequel, THE YEAR OF THE FLOOD.
So, what do you love to hate? What books do you hate that everyone else adores? Share your favorites and nonfavorites in the comments!

LOL I don't want to read the Twilight novels either. Another series everyone else seems to be gaga for that I refuse to read is Janet Evanovich's stuff.
Nothing by Jaquelline Wilson. And I'm probaby even spelling the name wrong. They just repel me all the bloody time. Once I tried to read it though, no go. Or whatever. I just know I HATE her books.
I have to agree on Harry Potter. I have tried to read the first HP about 3 times and never gotten past the first chapter. Still not sure why exactly. I just can't. What's funny is I love the movies. Go figure.
I like the Twilight books and find them fun to read. I usually don't read vampire books and I also didn't read a lot of YA before I picked up Twilight (still don't read a lot of YA).
I barely made it through all my Lit courses reading all these great classics. I hated them. I was considered very low brow especially when it came out that I read and enjoyed, shhh, don't tell, romances.
Not interested whatsoever in the Twilight series or Harry Potter. Maggie Shayne was so slowwww. Ugh. Won't touch Nicholas Sparks either. And that's just to name a few!
Wow, you don't like quite a few (LOL)
I can't bring myself to read any Gena Showalter, LKH or JR Ward. They are on my list, but everytime I get to them, I choose something else instead. I would probably like them if I gave them a shot.

OH wow...I have to say that I'm the complete opposite of everyone here. I love Walker and Vincent. Meyer was good, but I'm more annoyed with how she's been given credit for exploding the genre. I love the Sookie books.
The one author I will never read is probably Stephen King. I tried reading It a long time ago, but I hated all the flashbacks. Since then, I keep hearing how King is such a fabulous author, that I've just been turned off him.
Twilight - yea!Loved the first two movies/books and she seems very genuine/likeable. Harry Potter movies were great, but I have no interest in reading the books.
I don't get Debbie Macomber, LK Hamilton, Christine Feehan or Sherrilyn Kenyon's dark hunter books. Love JR Ward, Kresley Cole and Lara Adrian. Evanovich was great for the first 5-6 books, but they they all started sounding the same. Cozy mysteries - I don't see what is even interesting about them, ditto for the original harlequin lines (especially those titled the greek tycoon's nanny or such nonsense). But the best thing is that there are lots of authors out there for all of us to enjoy!!
I can't respect nor take someone seriously if they hate something without actually trying it. I'm not being defensive, but it's not quite fair to ridicule others for liking something if you are not even willing to try it.
If you try something and then decide it's not your style, then that's different.
