Photos from Harlequin's Art Exhibit 5/29/09

In case you missed my tweets from Harlequin's 60th anniversary art exhibit on Friday, May 29, I was there during the media event in the afternoon and again at the opening party later that night. As you can see in my photos, Harlequin and the Openhouse Gallery did a wonderful job displaying the various periods and styles of cover art and it was interesting seeing the evolution of men and women's roles on Harlequin's covers through the past six decades.

I got to meet and talk with many fantastic people, including authors Gena Showalter, Debbie Macomber, Heather Graham, Brenda Jackson, and Rachel Vincent, Harlequin editor Margo Lipschultz, senior publicity manager Marleah Stout, and CEO Donna Hayes. Check back soon for my author interviews!

From an artistic and technical perspective, these cover paintings are great pieces of art. My favorite artist of the show was Bern Smith, whose clean, high-contrast style immediately caught my eye. I wish I could've taken a few pieces home with me! If you're in the NYC area, I highly recommend taking a trip to the Openhouse Gallery on Mulberry St. and seeing these paintings in person.
