RT at Lady Jane's Salon 4/6/09

Lady Jane's Salon at Madame X, NYC, 4/6/09 - 14 of 17

Last night, I attended the third Lady Jane's Salon romance book reading at Madame X in Manhattan. I had an excellent time catching up with founders Hope Tarr, Maya Rodale, Leanna Hieber, and Ron Hogan from Beatrice.com, as well as Sarah Wendell from SmartBitchesTrashyBooks.com and, of course, Tony.

If you've never been to Madame X, the decor is wonderfully romantic, complete with red velvety Victorian furniture, red brick walls, and, of course, red mood lighting. Check out my photos to see what you're missing!

I donated three more romance novels to Share-the-Love.org, gave out copies of RT's May issue, drank my usual glass of tonic water, this time courtesy of Liz (thanks!), and met more great people, including this month's featured author Alisa Kwitney (also known as Alisa Sheckley), authors Sara Lindsey Mangel and Mageela Troche, and Leigh from Mobile Libris. In addition to taking photos, I also got some video of the readings, which I'll post tomorrow.

Sarah kicked the night off by reading a chapter from her upcoming book BEYOND HEAVING BOSOMS: THE SMART BITCHES' GUIDE TO ROMANCE NOVELS. Don't let the humor fool you; this book is full of wisdom and contains great examples of what not to do when writing a romance novel.

Alisa read passages from her urban fantasy book THE BETTER TO HOLD YOU. If you like mystery, romance, and werewolves...and climbing apartment buildings...this is the book for you.

Maya read from her historical romance book THE ROGUE AND THE RIVAL, with Tony covering the male lines. Their reading was so funny and entertaining that several audience members tried to convince Tony to get into the audio book business. He's a natural.

Lady Jane's Salon has officially become my first-Monday-of-the-month hangout! I hear they have a really cool performer lined up for next month. I wonder who it could be...

Thank you Rob! Thank you Liz! Y'all, as I said on stage, are our guardian angels!

Hope you don't mind if I snag one of your photos for my blog. I'll credit you, of course :)

I attended the salon last night for the first time. It's about time that there is something romance book related in NYC! I enjoyed myself, met some friends unexpectedly and plan to make this a regular port of call for me.

LJS was excellent as always, but I must remember to stand on a box (or wear giant platform shoes) when photos are taken. ;)

Rob: Your presence makes the LJS 245% more awesome, and thank you for the most excellent video link you sent.

Anyone who is anywhere near NYC on the first Monday of the month should check it out. It's amazing, from the readers to the crowd to the locations. Not to be missed.
