Why I Love the RT Book Lovers Convention, by Samantha Kane
Wow, where to start? I have attended two RT conventions, my first in 2007 and then again last year. In 2007, I brought my five-month-old daughter Adele to Houston with me. She was the star of the show, needless to say. That RT was a whirlwind between meeting so many new people, including some of my favorite authors, and keeping up with a nursing schedule for a five month old. The week flew by and I needed another week just to recover!

Some favorite memories from that RT include meeting Kate Douglas at the bar the first night, who in turn introduced me to Robin Schone, and then the three of us sat around and talked half the night. I loved being introduced at the Ellora's Cave party and walking across the stage on the arm of a Caveman. ::fanning self:: I took Adele to the Fairy Ball wearing a little pink dress and big butterfly wings, and people kept stopping us every two feet to take her picture. Friends Mari Freeman and Jenna Black were with us, and they commented it was like being in the entourage of a rock star. My little girl took it all in stride, and fell asleep on my shoulder in the middle of the festivities.

In 2008 I headed for Pittsburgh without Adele, footloose and fancy free, and for the first time I got to experience the nightlife RT has to offer. I also got to attend many more workshops, and participate in the Ebook Expo and Saturday Book Fair. I scheduled time at Club RT, which I loved because you really have time to talk to the romance fans who come through and I made a point of meeting as many new people as I could. I left Pittsburgh with some new, lifelong friends, and I will always treasure that RT convention.

Some favorite memories include my center-stage Hollywood kiss from Christian the Ellora's Cave cover model, when I was introduced at the EC party, dancing the night away EVERY NIGHT, meeting so many fans at the Ebook Expo and Book Fair, and Barry Eisler's disbelief at some of the costumes at Heather Graham's Vampire Ball.

But by far my favorite memory was winning the raffle to sit with Adrian Paul at the Cover Model Reunion dinner. They heard me scream in joy all they way down the hotel hallway when I got the call. One reader whom I'd met that day came and knocked on the door of my room, and when I opened the door she didn't even say hello. She asked, very excited for me, "Did you win?" LOL

Everyone knew how much I wanted to meet Adrian Paul. And it was worth it, believe me. BUT THEN I got to meet Fabio as well, and that was pure buttercream frosting on my RT cake.

So, why do I love RT? Readers, books, authors, books, dancing, books, costumes, books, and cover models. Who could ask for anything more? See you in Orlando!!

Hi Kay! Weren't they fabulous? So nice, and even more handsome in person. Fabio's personality just blew me away. He really fills a room with his presence, doesn't he? Overall, one of the best memories ever. Can't wait to see you this year!
Those are some great memories and pics. I am only able to go to the book signing on Sat. so I will not get to meet you :( But I love your books and cannot wait to read your new one. Have a great time this year :)
