Interview with author Sharon Page at RT

RT: So tell us about yourself.

Sharon Page: I am writing a historical romance, more erotic romance for Aphrodesia, and I am writing now for Bantam/Dell. My romances there are pretty steamy and spicy, but not quite as erotic as the Aphrodesias. THE CLUB came out in February and made the USA Today bestsellers list so that was really exciting. That was my first time on the list.

RT: What made you decide to do historical erotica?

SP: Well, for me, I had read a lot of historical romance, like Amanda Quick, Jo Beverley and Lisa Kleypas. Historicals are what I like to read, and my parents are from England, as well, so my background is connected there. Just for me, that was where my voice worked well. I enjoy writing and it just seemed to click for me.

I think we are seeing more historical erotica now, because historical romance itself has been pushing more boundaries sexually. I think taking it that extra step, because you have so much sexuality at the time. I mean, you had restrained sexuality, then you had the brothels and all the ways for men and women of certain positions to let off steam and explore. In fact, when I started writing my first book, I was inspired by these Regency, early Victorian erotic pictures. There were some really wild things in those, so I guess that’s what was inspiring me, too.

RT: What do you have coming up?

SP: Well, the one I am working on right now, which is now been set to come out early 2010, is another book for Dell, which is called THE LAST SEDUCTION. Basic premise is Regency prison break. I am setting the action at the Dartmore Prison, which was a war prison, but I actually found a way to get British convicts in at the time. I wanted to put it in a different setting than say, London. I’ve always been interesting in the moors as this wild, untamed area. And it’s going to start off a new series, so it’s going to be a lot of fun.

RT: Any with Aphrodesia?

SP: I have BLOOD DEEP coming out in June. And just right now, I have a lot of obligations, so right now I am focusing on the new series with Dell.

RT: How about RT? What’s your history with that?

SP: This is my third RT and they are so much fun. The first one was Houston, and just right away I felt at home and welcomed and everyone was so great. And the staff was just so great, I mean, you come in and they know your name and make you feel great. It’s just a terrific time. I had been others, but this is a different flavor. It’s great meeting the readers, and there’s the parties and the gatherings and it just makes it so easy to meet people and talk and make connections, without some of the formality that might make it tentative to approach people

RT: What events have/are you involved in?

SP: I have been in Club RT and I have a panel this morning on making unforgettable love scenes. I like to wander and go to everything, all the parties and try going to as many workshops as I can. The workshops tend to be really great.

RT: What is your favorite part of RT?

SP: Hmmm, well, that is a really tough questions because there is so much I love about it. I think it’s the ability to just come in and find people you know right away and just kind of talk to people, go between the rooms and see half a dozen people you haven’t seen for a year and just catch up and connect.

Thank you, Sharon!
