Interview with author Jeaniene Frost at RT

I got to sit down with Jeaniene Frost, author of the Night Huntress series. Here is part of our conversation:

RT: How many RTs have you been to?

Jeaniene Frost: This is my second.

RT: And why are you are here?

JF: I really liked my first one, I went to the one last year. And it seemed to be a good convention for authors and readers. It really seemed to be reader interactive as far as the panels and meeting authors and I really liked that. So that’s what brought me back. That, and convenience: I live in Florida, so I am only three hours away, so I couldn’t miss it.

RT: What are you looking forward to?

JF: I have a few panels this year. I had two panels already today. The first panel was Vampires: A Bite with a Twist and it was talking about keeping the vampire mythology and what authors do to keep it fresh in the marketplace today. And the second one was Hybrid Paranormals and it was talking about the line between paranormal romance and urban fantasy, what is it, what isn’t it and how is it blurring. So that was fun because I write both sides – I refuse to pick a side.

And it’s always interesting to hear reader’s perceptions, because as authors we put our books out there, but it’s the readers who determine the success, failure and the market. We don’t – the authors just write, it’s the readers who determine what’s hot and what’s working.

RT: Other RT appearances?

JF: I have at least one more… I am on Thursday’s I’ll Love You Forever: Writing a Series in Urban Fantasy. Then, Friday, The Good, The Bad, The Paranormal: Heroines Kicking Ass Across Fantasy Worlds. Which should be fun because kicking ass doesn’t only mean physical, it also means heroines who are strong physically and/or emotionally. So the ass-kicking is metaphorical as well as literal, which is always a fun topic to talk about. I will be at the Book Fair on Saturday and… Avon’s hosting a fan party Thursday afternoon.

RT: Upcoming books?

JF: My fourth book in the Night Hunters series is coming out July 28th and it’s called DESTINED FOR AN EARLY GRAVE. It’s another Cat and Bones book. And in this one, she gets really pushed to the limit to where the only way she might be able to defeat this adversary is to possibly give up her humanity.

I have two more anthologies coming out this year. The next anthology is coming out in June and it’s called FOUR DUKES AND A DEVIL. It’s a romance anthology. Romance has the widest market of all the genres. And a couple are contemporary, so it’s a lot kinds of stories, and then there is mine, which is the dark splash in the pretty pond. It’s in the Night Huntress world, but it’s new characters. It’s a man obsessed with a man possessed by a demon and the only help comes from a vampire who has closed herself off from society.

The second anthology is called UNBOUND and it’s a dark fantasy, with Kim Harrison, Vicki Pettersson, Melissa Marr and Jocelyn Drake. It came about when Melissa and Vicki and I were talking about being in a book together. And since we can’t write one together, we thought an anthology would be a good idea. So Melissa pitched it and we added Kim and Jocelyn. It was so fun to see something where you sat around saying it would a neat idea and to see it happen. It’s the neatest experience I have had so far.

They can find me at www.jeanienefrost.com, and also I have MySpace page and a LiveJournal page and recently a Twitter page I promise to try to keep updating.

Thank you, Jeaniene!
