Guest Blogger: Dianne Castell

Dianne Castell So you want to go to RT! Join in the fun, meet the great authors and talk books with readers from all over the place that you've been talking to online!

Well, I want to do this too. In fact, I've been planning on this trip for a year, a whole entire year since I got back from RT Houston. Except...and I can hardly write this...now I can't go to RT Pittsburg!

How can that be? What did I do to deserve this?

Where else can I catch a Mr. Romance Contest, and this year, a Mr. Romance reunion! How delicious is that? Where else can I legitimately and openly ogle hunky guys for long periods of time and get away with it without my husband saying...*Put you eyes back in your head, dear.*

And where else can I dress up like a slut pirate and not wind up in jail? You see, I'm part of the Scamps and Vamps and we're throwing this neat reader bash, Bad Pirates Get All the Booty. Now I'm not going to get anything.

And I'm so going to miss the incredible parties like the Nightwalker Stud Muffin Mixer. Does that sound like fun or what? And what am I going to do with my vampire costume and fairy costume? Anyone need a pair of spiked teeth?

But as much fun as all this is, the thing I'll miss most is seeing people I've met at RT over the years. I live in Cincinnati and the only time I see Karen Kelley from Texas is at RT. Lucy Monroe is in Oregon and I never see her except for RT. And Lori Foster and I were driving together to Pittsburg and now we won't have our five hour uninterrupted gabbing session. The friendships from all the years I've attended RT are some of my dearest.

Now that I've sulked and brooded to you the only thing left to do is think about next year's RT. Orlando! That's enough to perk anyone up. RT, here I come...a year late.

So, those of you who have attended an RT convention, what is your favorite thing about it? What would you miss most if you couldn't go? Those of you who've never made it to an RT convention, what is the one thing you would look forward to the most?

For trying to cheer me up I'll give away two HOT AND BOTHERED T-shirts from the list of responses.

Thanks for chatting and happy RTing.

Hugs,

Dianne Castell

I have never been to an RT but REALLY WANT to. I think it would be a total blast.
I want to see the male model contests, I want to see the vampire ball, and I want to experience everything.
I heard that RT is going to be in Orlando and that is a huge draw for me to think about going.

Hey Darling,

We sure are going to miss you too. Sis told me to tell you Hi and she is thinking of you.

The dinners will not be the same without you.

Oh and you are going to miss me being completely and utterly conservative this year in my costumes. Nope no sleazy this year...LOL

Hugs to you and your family Dianne

So sorry you're not going, Dianne. I'm not going either, except I might try to buzz over for the booksigning since it's not terribly far.

Biggest of hugs to you.

I've never been to a RT convention - though I've heard lots of comments on them. Lots of parties and free books. But I've also heard complaints about the price. But with it being in Orlando next year, that might be doable depending on the kids schedule.

Dianne - We're going to miss you like crazy, girl! But maybe if you're good, we'll sneak a pirate home in a suitcase and drop him off at your house.

I can't wait to read HOT AND BOTHERED. Woo hoo! Got to love all that creepy, romantic Savannah stuff. And the men... (picture me fanning).

RT won't be the same without you, but we'll raise a glass in your honor... or at least a cup of grog.
Argh matey - I'm off to do some swashbuckling!

Sorry that you can't go. :( We will miss you. The thing that I love the most about RT is meeting all the people that love romance. I love that there is a hotel full of readers. The frist time you go you might not know anyone but when you leave you have friends that are the best. K. Adams

I have never been to RT. I have only heard great things about it and love to attend one year. It just never seems to work out for me with my 2 little ones and my dh's work/Reserve schedule. Oh well, I do get to ogle all of the pics from the attendees when they post them on their websites and blogs.

I'll pout with you, Dianne. Very hard to get there from here. I had a blast at the author signings that I've attended - NYC and St. Louis. I've never attended the entire event but the signings were a blast.

Hi Dianne! I won't be going to RT this year (sorry to say I've never gone) so I feel your pain. It sounds like a really fun event, and one day I do hope to go. I subscribe to RT magazine, and reading about it makes me want to be there.

Have a great day :)

Do you have your costumes?
Dancing shoes? You are the dancing queen! And I'm going to miss it!

Hey Bad Barb.

Of all the big conferences RT is the best for readers. So many come and hang out and always friendly. It's a four day party for booklovers.
Maybe next year???

Only one month away!!!!!!!!

RT is fast approaching. I keep up on the countdown online.

I'd be packing by now. Ironing my pirate costume and making Hot and Bothered T-Shirts to give to readers.

Next year...I keep telling myself. Next year I'll be doing all those fun things!

Hi Dianne,

I am really sad you won't be in Pittsburgh, I was looking forward to seeing you again. I hope you have a great time in Orlando. I won't be going there. No way can I go to Disney area without my hubby. We are Disney FANatics and I would feel really weird without him.

The thing I like best about RT is the talking; with the authors, readers, booksellers, etc. I also like that it is pure me time. I don't have to be Mom or Wife, it is just for me. I don't have to plan or coordinate, I just enjoy or relax, whatever I want to do.

I will miss seeing you and I will hoist a tall one for you. (If I can't find a tall one, I will hoist anyone who will let me.)

Hi Dianne,

I'm already planning my trip to Orlando next year, too. It'll be my very first RT, and I can't wait!

My dealer - sorry bookseller - has been telling me all about it for ages and I can _finally_ swing my schedule to come (and from Australia it's a bit of a logistical challenge to find the time). The costumes will be started as soon as the themes get announced, too...

Hopefully I'll get a chance to meet you (I loooved Hot and Bothered) in Orlando.

Hi, Lori.
I've never done Disneyland. Do you believe that! Maybe next year when I do RT I can work it in a few days before.

I know what you mean about just being you the reader and not someone's wife or mom. At RT you get to do your thing and talk books. Nothing better! :-)

Hi, Claire

So glad you loved Hot and Bothered! You made my day. :-)

That you make your own costumes for RT is incredible. I can't wait to see them next year. Orlando will be a great time. Maybe we can do Disneyland together. :-)

Hi again Dianne,

count me in for Disneyworld! And I'll make sure you get to see the frocks that I bring over - I've been sewing historical clothes for about 15 years now and just love it.

see you in Orlando!
