Avon FanLit Contest

The Internet is quickly becoming one of my favorite writing and reading aids. Not only can I get the latest buzz directly from the authors themselves, via their websites or blogs, but I can also talk with other romance fans and find out what they have to say about books they've read.

Now, I can add another reason why I love the Internet -- the Avon FanLit contest, which officially kicks off today. For those of you who haven't heard, Avon will be publishing an e-book novella written online by readers/aspiring writers. Each week, aspiring writers will write another chapter in the saga and readers will vote on entries. The top entries each week will be awarded prizes, and the grand-prize winners will get a Fox development deal worth $5,000 or a free trip to New York to meet with Avon officials. Other prizes include an RT subscription giveaway and Saks Fifth Avenue gift certificates.
