Discovering New Authors
I'm jumping for joy as I type this. OK, so I'm sitting down and not actually jumping or doing cartwheels, but I am excited. What am I so happy about? I've found a new author to rave about. She's not a debut author by any means, in fact the book I read was, I believe, her sixth romantic suspense novel. But she is new to me and I'm thrilled. I finished the book at around eleven last night and quickly considered how fast I'd be able to buy the author's backlist. (For those of you wondering, which I'm sure you all are at this point, I'm talking about author Karen Rose, whose February 2007 release COUNT TO TEN
inspired this piece. I was lucky enough to get a preview copy of the book from her publicist at Warner Books.)
To be honest, I had heard of Rose before I read this book. And she writes in my favorite genre -- romantic suspense. But until last week I'd never read any of her books. I don't really know why.
Let's face it. We all have so many books to read and so many favorite authors whose books we buy automatically when they are released that our to-be-read piles often don't allow for many new names. Sure we might buy a debut author, because it is their first book and we'd all like to get a jump on the next big author (Allison Brennan anyone?), but finding an author in our favored genre who's been toiling way for years and who we somehow overlooked -- well it's like finding a treasure that's been hiding in your attic for years.
So how you do you feel about discovering an author you've previously overlooked?

I love Karen Rose's books. I've read I'm Watching You, Nothing To Fear, You Can't Hide , Have You Seen Her, Hot Pursuit, and Don't Tell.
Karen's books are great!

Romanctic Suspense is my favorite genre and like you I discovered Karen Rose recently. In fact, I discovered her at the RWA Conference in Reno in 2005 when I hear everyone talking about her.
I'm a devoted fan with a special shelf for her books. I can't until February. Want to send me your ARC? :-)

Excited :-) It's always exciting to find an author I've overlooked, especially if they have a backlist to snap up.
When I was an aspiring writer I made it a habit to read books by new authors. The reasoning was to see what type of books editors were buying. Now I'm published, I've continued that trend. I've discovered lots of excellent authors this way.
Finding an amazing new author is so exciting. If you buy a debut author and adore her work, the hard part is waiting for the next book. I recently picked up What A Gentleman Wants by Caroline Linden, opened the first page just to get a taste, and couldn't put the book down until I finished it.
I read Dark Lover by J. R. Ward when it first came out, and I've been first in line to buy her two subsequent books on release day.
Madeline Hunter and Kim Harrison are authors I found when they already had a number of books on the shelf. After reading just one, I went out and bought every book in their backlist that I could get my hands on—that's the benefit of discovering a new author who is really only new to you.
Happy reading!
I've discovered ebooks, and love reading Jaid Black, Brianna Martini, Jan Springer, Lora Leigh and Emma Holly. I've signed up for each author's newsletter for info and book releases.

I've found e-books to be so easily accessible. I can shop in my pajamas! LOL! Since I like trying new authors, I frequent review sites, and I've discovered some great ones. My favs include: Madison Layle & Anna Leigh Keaton (I LOVE their erotic romance series, Incognito!)... Brandi Broughton, Jennah Sharp, and Loribelle Hunt soothe my desire for shape-shifters.

Oh, D.L.
I read Layle and Keaton's series...Incognito! "Seducing Olivia" is not for the faint of heart, but if you love steamy triads and BDSM mixed in with a love story like I do, then you're in for a treat. And "Owning Rachel"...OMG...Naughty, but hot hot HOT!
They aren't coffee table type of books, but definitely keepers in my PC's e-book directory! LOL
